New South Wales covers over 800,000 square kilometers and spans diverse geographical landscapes divided broadly into four distinct zones:
- The Coastal Belt: A 1,460 km coastline featuring surf beaches, coastal lakes, and major urban centers including Sydney, Newcastle, and Wollongong.
- The Great Dividing Range: A broad mountain system running north-to-south, encompassing the Blue Mountains, the Hunter Valley wine country, and the Snowy Mountains (home to Mount Kosciuszko, Australia’s highest peak at 2,228 meters).
- The Agricultural Tablelands & Central Plains: Fertile inland areas that serve as an agricultural powerhouse for livestock, wheat, and produce.
- The Far West Outback: Arid red-earth plains covering the western portion of the state, including historic mining hubs like Broken Hill.
